The Best of Both Worlds - Combining E-Learning with Traditional Instructional Methods

Remember that old saying about throwing the baby out with the bathwater? Just because we have access to e-Learning technology doesn’t mean that we need to throw out the tried and true instructional methods that have been effective over the years. With that said, though, it also holds true that we don’t need to turn a blind eye to the technological advances in the E-learning arena.Â
When it comes to training, it really is possible to have the best of both worlds. Whether you call the combination of traditional instructional methods with E-learning a “hybrid” or a “blended” approach to learning, you have to admit there are benefits associated with combining the old and the new in terms of instructional delivery.Â
If you give any credence to the many theories regarding individual learning differences, you have to acknowledge that different people learn in different ways. When it comes to training, what matters is the end result … not how you get there. There is no sense in arguing which method is better, because the answer will always be “it depends.” Â
Everybody wins when you combine the best of both worlds into instructional delivery. There are positives and negatives associated with every possible method of instructional delivery. When you combine the latest advances in E-learning technology with the more tried and true traditional approaches to learning, you end up with a number of advantages that mitigate the disadvantages, maximizing learning potential for everyone.
