One of the emerging technologies associated with E-Learning today is incorporating the use of podcasts into E-Learning course delivery. It makes sense to use podcasts in E-Learning training programs from both an instructional perspective and in a practical sense.   Â
The technology required to create and deliver podcasts to learners in not cost-prohibitive or complicated. Most people today have powerful computers with broadband internet connectivity. Speakers are standard equipment with most computers, and headphones are cheap. It is easy for us to listen to online news stories from our desktop computers, so why not listen to podcasts of training materials?Â
From an instructional perspective, there is certainly a benefit to incorporating an auditory element into the delivery of E-Learning. There is an enormous advantage associated with incorporating multiple types of content into E-learning classes. The more different ways content can be presented to learners, the richer the learning experience is likely to be.Â
Additionally, auditory learning is a very common individual learning style. Many people learn primarily by listening, and the lack of an auditory component has long been considered one of the drawbacks of E-Learning. Incorporating podcasts in E-Learning certainly enhances the appeal of E-Learning to those who either need or prefer training that includes an auditory component. Â
I think this emerging technology is here to stay.
